Downtown Columbiana 2021 Vision
Utilizing a unified, cohesive market approach, Downtown Columbiana is known as a Historic Arts District and the heart of the community. The district delivers desired recreation and entertainment opportunities including Shelby County Arts Council activities in the new facility, additional quality ticketed events, museums, galleries, and the established statewide wine trail and rails to trails attractions to draw both local and tourists.
Tapping into the enthusiasm and vision for the future, Columbiana Main Street has united forward thinking leaders within both the public and private sectors to form a realistic action plan resulting in quality mixed use redevelopment projects that attract developers, businesses, and customers. Projects are focused on filling vacant buildings, maximizing space in others, infill construction and dealing with deferred maintenance issues resulting in the capture of through traffic and meeting the everyday needs of locals. The nation-wide growing interest in living downtown has been supported by the development of market rate loft apartments as well as establishing additional upper story offices for service oriented businesses. This has significantly impacted vacant downtown properties, motivating property owners to re-invest in a vibrant and welcoming downtown.
Downtown Columbiana is known for the historic character of its Main Street and safe, hometown atmosphere. It is the centerpiece of the community and serves as a hub for South Shelby County residents to shop, eat and be entertained, drawing in people and dollars to the charming downtown district during the day, but also at night and on weekends. Local and Lay Lake residents, as well as those in surrounding communities, support thriving businesses including specialty retail shops, a brewery and restaurants in family friendly spaces.
